Preparing for this show I cast about for how to name it and how to title each piece. I had not explored a subject nor had a particular intent except just to play, try things out. Around about that time the death of Phyllida Barlow was in the news and I read her writings about her work and her thoughts about creativity in general. Her area was sculpture and mine is not but there was so much that she referred to that really made sense and which applied to my approach with these current pieces. It’s all about creating and messing about with paint. No planned outcome as I worked and no destination for the finished work. For Barlow, art and artists exist regardless of whether they are seen by an audience. “There are plenty of artists who don’t have exhibitions, there’s plenty of art that’s never seen.” That seemed about right.
The exhibition title I have had on file for a few years. Spoken by an extremely enthusiastic and possibly bonkers home owner in the TV Series Grand Design.
